When Rob started JMMA during the myspace days it was for one reason, and one reason alone, to talk about John Mayer. Little by little the messages about John turned into friendship requests, that led to midnight chats, which carried over to phone calls that allowed for JMMA group pictures to suffice. As time went on, so did these friendships. With all jokes aside, I know that we all came together for the love of John, but if it wasn’t for Rob, JMMA wouldn’t have survived the networking cycle of what was in and what was not.
As time went on, many JMMAers from Myspace found their way onto facebook, and newbies took part of the group (I am one of them) but what I found heartwarming was that I had found a group, where I could not only talk about John without boring them to death, but also share my life with via pixel openly without judgment. Thank you for being there when I needed you the most.
I know that Rob is missed, we see your comments, believe me I miss him “Every. Day.” No one could lift someone’s spirit like him, but let’s not dwell on the (where did he go?) moreover lets appreciate the (what he did). He allowed us to find a place where so many of you can come, appreciate John Mayer, talk about him, talk about his music and become friends. Rob gave you a place to feel you in your own space, alongside those who will appreciate just the same. He passed the baton over to Erika, who brought us a beautiful soul, Heather Grant. And with that Heather has touched the lives of so many of you including myself with her story about love, and heartbreak.
I will not get into her story because you would have to become her friend for you to understand. Few know her story, and it’s a courageous one that you will never read in a book, see in a movie or witness in a play, but you may be able to listen to it through the words of Tobias, a fellow JMMAer who wrote this beautiful song called ‘Even Angels Cry’ which was inspired by Heathers story.
Now with the numbers growing on the left side I know its all part of the networking aspect to bring more people to ‘like’ this little John Mayer Music Appreciation page, but it doesn’t overshadow the family we have all become. I want to thank you for coming here every day, and showing your support not only for John but for others as well, for sharing your links, sending your love, and encouraging one another daily. To the many newbies that have yet to cross over from viewing to commenting, welcome! To the myspacers who’ve never left, thank you! And to the family we have all become, I love you all! ♥ W.
