John Mayer Sits with Alan Light

John sat with Alan Light and spoke about his frustration regarding having the tune of ‘Born and Raised’ in his head long before finishing the Battle Studies winter tour, (I am not surprised one bit), the man is working on a new album right now as we speak, and he just finished releasing ‘Born and Raised’ almost a month ago. He also speaks about having nostalgia for a sound he didn’t create, as well as having a sense of displacement with his own dreams.

Alan Light asked John, if there was any particular song he felt a click with, in which John quickly jumped in to answer. Mayer goes on to explain the order of which the songs came to him, (it’s also nice to know that Whisky, Whisky, Whisky came in during the month of October 2010, right after the West Palm Beach concert in which John expressed to his fans that he would be taking his all too long hiatus that has now become the norm.

John opens up about wanting to disappear during that time, and not coexisting in the world he had created for himself, which lead him to gravitate towards the older people who were working with him on ‘Born and Raised’ which gave him the guidance to accept growth.

John also speaks about how he quarantined himself in order to keep his song writing a float.

“What I need to figure out now is, how can I make a record and keep the guy that was.”

I will leave you to listen to the rest of the interview, enjoy and take it all in because it’s a raw and honest kind of John, and that’s the Mayer we appreciate and love.
